Prayatna Nepal is deeply committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of women and girls with disabilities, recognizing their heightened vulnerability to various forms of abuse and violence. Our work in this area focuses on empowering them to protect themselves and advocating for their fundamental rights.

Key Strategies and Focus Areas:

  • Empowerment for Self-Defense: We equip women and girls with disabilities with the knowledge and skills to recognize, prevent, and respond to various forms of abuse and violence. This includes providing awareness about their rights, different types of abuse (physical, sexual, emotional, economic), and strategies for seeking help and self-defense.
  • Access to Justice: We work to break down barriers that prevent women and girls with disabilities from accessing justice mechanisms. This involves facilitating their access to legal aid, police services, and judicial processes in an accessible and sensitive manner. We advocate for disability-inclusive justice systems that understand and address their unique needs.
  • Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR): A critical component of our work is advocating for the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls with disabilities. This includes ensuring their access to comprehensive SRHR information and services, free from discrimination and coercion, enabling them to make informed decisions about their bodies and lives.
  • Awareness and Advocacy: We conduct awareness campaigns within communities to challenge prevailing norms and attitudes that contribute to violence against women with disabilities. We also advocate for stronger protective laws and policies, and for their effective implementation, to create a safer environment for all.
  • Support Networks: We help build and strengthen support networks among women with disabilities, fostering environments where they can share experiences, offer mutual support, and collectively address issues of abuse and violence.

Our ultimate goal in this area is to ensure that women and girls with disabilities live free from violence, have control over their own bodies, and can access justice and support whenever needed.
