Rescue and Relief Operation Conducted during Earthquake

After devastating earth quakes of 25 April and May 12, our country Nepal faced the huge loss of human life and physical properties. As one of the organizations in visually impaired women sector, Prayatna team has decided to go for data collection and relief support for the earth quake victim of visually impaired families. For entire process we contacted and worked together with different organizations and different persons. Prayatna had distributed relief material for earth quake victim of visually impaired families. Relief package, food and nonfood item. Rice, lentils, oil, sugar, soap, sanitary pad, salt, clothes and education material for visually impaired students.

  • In 9th of May, Prayatna Nepal team went to kavre district layaku village to meet 5 visually impaired families of earthquake victim and supported them with some food stuffs and clothes.
  • In 18th of May Prayatna Nepal team reached boratar, Kathmandu and badhikhel, lalitpur to support visually impaired family of earthquake victim. We have provided foods sanitary items and tents.
  • In 21th of May, Prayatna Nepal team collaboration with blind rocks, BWA Nepal and Dibya Jyoti Foundation reached Kirtipur to support 20 earthquake victim of visually impaired family.. There we distribute foods, mosquito net, cloths, sanitary items, and mattress.
  • IN 26th of May Pryatna Nepal team went Bhimsengola to support earth quake victim JB Thapa who lost his both hand n eye in conflict time. There we have supported him with some food stuffs and clothes.
  • In 12th of June we have conducted relief material distribution for 25 visually impaired families in Thapathali Kathmandu.
  • In November 7th we have conducted psycho-social counseling training for 25 ( person with disabilities and parents of intellectual  disabilities in Harisiddhi Lalitpur Nepal.
  • In 9th November Prayatna Nepal has conducted psycho-social counseling and personality development training programmed for visually impaired students in Amar Jyoti Janata Secondary School Luitel Gorkha.
  • In 10th of November, Prayatna Nepal have   conducted education material braillecopy, pen drive, pen drive player and sighted copies) distribution for 11 disable students in Amar Jyoti Janata Secondary School Luintel Gorkha.
  • In November 14, Prayatna Nepal went to Sarashwoti Higher Secondary School Aale Gorkha to distribute some Braille Papers.
  • Prayatna Nepal has established temporary shelters for 3 earth quake victim visually impaired families.

Prayatna Nepal, a self-help organization dedicated to empowering visually impaired women and girls, recently conducted a consultation on digital accessibility on national and international laws, policy, frameworks, universal design and accessibility standards to content developers, IT professionals, government representatives, private sector stakeholders, and representatives from Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs).
