Prayatna Nepal champions the fundamental rights and full social inclusion of women and girls with disabilities. We believe that justice extends beyond legal frameworks to encompass true acceptance, participation, and equity in all facets of society. Our work in this area aims to dismantle barriers and foster an environment where their voices are heard, valued, and acted upon.
Key Strategies and Focus Areas:
- Meaningful Participation in Decision-Making: We work to ensure the meaningful participation of visually impaired women and girls in decision-making processes at all levels—from family and community discussions to local and national governance mechanisms. This includes advocating for their representation in leadership roles and creating accessible platforms for their engagement.
- Promoting Social Inclusion: We strive to break down societal barriers and prejudices that lead to exclusion. This involves raising public awareness to foster acceptance, understanding, and respect for the diversity that disability brings. We advocate for inclusive environments in education, healthcare, public spaces, and social activities.
- Advocacy for Rights and Justice: We actively engage in advocacy for the recognition and enforcement of the rights of women and girls with disabilities, drawing from national laws and international conventions like the CRPD and CEDAW. This includes advocating for legal reforms, access to remedies for rights violations, and combating discrimination.
- Empowering Voice and Agency: We empower visually impaired women and girls to articulate their needs, concerns, and aspirations, and to advocate for themselves. This involves providing platforms for them to share their experiences and participate in public discourse.
